Like A Girl With Michela Ricci

Updated: Oct 9, 2019

Like a Girl was inspired by you. That's right, you. The dreamers, the movers and shakers, the girls that follow their passions. The girls that aren't afraid to step outside of their comfort zone. The ones who know with out a doubt that they will change the world. But sometimes, we need a reminder that we are more than enough. Sometimes, we need a little boost of confidence to turn down those negative voices in our head. Sometimes, we just need a little encouragement and inspiration. Like a Girl is a collection of stories and interviews brought together to prove that it is okay to take risks and take charge of your future. By bringing together this amazing group of women we prove to you that it is okay to throw like a girl, shoot like a girl, dream like a girl, create like a girl, and most importantly, to be a girl.

Cheers,

Emily Vance

Like A Girl With Michela Ricci

Hello world, meet Michela Ricci, owner and operator of Early Bird PHX, a mobile specialty coffee bar.

Don't forget to follow her on Instagram: @earlybirdphx, Twitter: @earlybirdphx, and Facebook: @earlybirdphx What is the Early Bird? Early Bird PHX is a mobile beverage bar, featuring locally roasted coffee, espresso, tea, lemonade, etc. Our mission revolves around purveying local, quality, conscientious products. Conscientious, meaning responsible, noteworthy, and ready to cater to the customers’ best interests. What inspired you to start your business?  Serving has always come naturally to me, my cup gets filled by helping other people start their day. I saw a growing trend in coffee becoming an oversized sugar-bomb and wanted to simplify using quality, local products. I liked the idea too, of taking specialty coffee mobile; to challenge perceptions and elevate the experience of a 'food truck'.

Who are your role models?  Julia Peixoto-Peters, from Peixoto Coffee Roasters. Like the boss babe she is, she balances a growing business and family legacy with grace.

If you could give any one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?  Be stubborn about your goals and don't let anyone tell you differently.  What is your greatest accomplishment so far?  Launching the Early Bird PHX has been such a great experience, and an accomplishment itself, but I'm feeling successful now that our numbers are matching projected sales from our business plan, and we are still in year one!  What is your superpower?  Intuition. I consider myself to be highly observant of not only my surroundings, but of myself, which is so important. Trust your gut.

What do you do when you feel like you have hit a roadblock in your business?  Talk to a friend, go to yoga, take a walk. It may call for something different in each situation, but will always require a deep breath and mindfulness. What do you hope to accomplish in one year?  Admittedly, I've been incredibly focused on this year, and am excited to look towards 2019, because I haven't given it much thought yet (which isn't like me!). My hope is to grow myself and my business, whatever that ends up looking like.

What is the biggest thing you have learned so far after starting your business? Release expectations. I'm a fan of Lori Harder's A Tribe Called Bliss and as she says, when we hold an expectation for ourselves and others, we are opening up the possibility of being let down. You can still have high standards and think big, but while you’re doing it love yourself as you are right now and accept what is going on at the moment, what you need, and where your priorities are.

If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?  Confident.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

You are capable of more than you think. Stop wishing for it and work for it. Your dreams are right there. Get that shit done.
