Like A Girl With Ingrid Payne

Updated: Dec 31, 2018

Like a Girl was inspired by you. That's right, you. The dreamers, the movers and shakers, the girls that follow their passions. The girls that aren't afraid to step outside of their comfort zone. The ones who know with out a doubt that they will change the world. But sometimes, we need a reminder that we are more than enough. Sometimes, we need a little boost of confidence to turn down those negative voices in our head. Sometimes, we just need a little encouragement and inspiration. Like a Girl is a collection of stories and interviews brought together to prove that it is okay to take risks and take charge of your future. By bringing together this amazing group of women we prove to you that it is okay to throw like a girl, shoot like a girl, dream like a girl, create like a girl, and most importantly, to be a girl.

Cheers,

Emily Vance

Like A Girl With Ingrid Payne

Hello world, meet Ingrid Payne, owner of Orchid James Handmade! Check out how this mama of two not only launched her business this year, but also learned how to sew in order to create her products!

What is Orchid James Handmade?

Orchid James Handmade is brand of handmade and free spirited apparel in sizes ranging from newborn to adult.

What inspired you to start your business?

I started Orchid James Handmade with the intention of helping my other half provide some income for our little family of four, as well as break away from the monotony that is the stay at home mom life.

Who are your role models?

My biggest role model along this journey has definitely been my good friend Jordan Peterson-Derosier. Jordan also owns her own handmade shop and she has so selflessly helped me with my brand since day one.

If you could give any one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?

One piece of advice I would give to my younger self would be that so it's important to stay authentic to your own true-self and values, don't let others judgements be the reason that you're wondering what could have been.

What is your greatest accomplishment so far?

My greatest accomplishment since starting my own business is learning how to sew! When I started the brand in October I had never sewn before!

What is your superpower?

Engagement; I try to engage with customers on a personal level, to see them as unique and diverse individuals, and then I strive to meet understand and meet their needs accordingly.

What do you do when you feel like you have hit a roadblock in your business?

STAY CALM. Breathe, step away, and come back later with fresh eyes and a more positive perspective.

What do you hope to accomplish in one year?

I have a lot of hopes for this next year in regards to Orchid James Handmade. I hope to see my sewing skills skyrocket. I hope to make some genuine connections with some like minded individuals and maybe do some rad collaborations!

What is the biggest thing you have learned so far after starting your business?

The biggest thing I've learned so far would be that it has made me aware that I'm capable of a lot more than I give myself credit for.

If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
