I FINALLY sat down and made my website mobile friendly. I think the reason why it took so long was because my site is so big it seemed like such a tedious task. But it honestly wasn't bad at all. Wix makes the process a breeze and has so many incredible features. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an easy platform to host their website.
I have several links I wanted to post on my Instagram account, and after a little research I found that the popular Linktree option might not be the best. Why? For starters, you lose your domain. Being able to see "emilyvance.com" in my bio is extremely important to me. It takes you directly to my website, it is clean, and I don't want to advertise someone else's product in my bio. Another problem users seem to have encountered is Linktree going down. I don't want to have to rely on another service for people to visit my website, especially if it has a reputation of crashing. Finally, the price. I already pay to host my website, I don't want to add another monthly cost to my budget. While Linktree does have a free option, to get the most out of it, there is a $6/month subscription cost. That doesn't seem like a lot, but that is $72 of unnecessary spending each year.
So, I decided to make a super easy version of Linktree directly through my website.
Step 1 - Create a dedicated page ONLY for your mobile links. Then, hide it from your website. (This means you can only access it directly through the link.) Set this page's URL to (whateveryourwebsiteisnamed) . com/mobile. To do this, click on the page in your site menu, page settings, SEO (Google), scroll down and change the page URL.
Step 2 - On your new mobile page, create a button for each link you would like to share. This page will look strange on the desktop site (which is why we hide it) BUT it will look amazing on your phone. Don't forget to check the mobile layout by switching the editing mode to mobile. To do this, click on the phone icon located at the top of Wix's editing page. Don't forget to actually TURN ON the option for your site to be mobile friendly.
Step 3 - Replace your link in your Instagram bio with this new mobile link. Originally, mine went straight to my website's home page, www.emilyvance.com. Now, it brings up the mobile page, www.emilyvance.com/mobile that gives you the option to visit my website, a GoFundMe link, and a company I am currently an ambassador for. Unlike Linktree, my logo is at the top along with easy access directly to my website.
